Selected experiences on the route

Greyfriars Monastery
The Greyfriars Monastery Museum is a hidden gem three meters beneath one of Aalborg's busiest pedestrian streets, Algade. In this underground museum, the history of the Greyfriars Monastery, which stood on Algade from its construction in the 1240s until its dissolution in 1530, unfolds. The monastery was located where the city of Aalborg originated, and at the museum, you can therefore learn about the marketplace that gradually became a town at the beginning of the 10th century, several unknown churches, and the townhouses that eventually had to make way for the monks' monastery.

Through impressive ruins, skeletons from the graveyards, and a collection of fine finds from the Viking Age and medieval Aalborg, visitors gain a unique insight into the city's early history and the monastery's role in it.

The Greyfriars Monastery Museum is an experience for both history enthusiasts and curious visitors who want to delve into Aalborg's rich past.

Kildeparken
Kildeparken, better known as 'The Source' by locals, is one of Aalborg's oldest parks and a central gathering place throughout the year.

In the park, you will find a range of classic sculptures by renowned sculptors as well as beautiful fountains that adorn the natural surroundings. The park was initiated in 1802 and is Aalborg's first public park.

Kildeparken is not just a place for quiet reflection, but also a backdrop for events, especially during the summer months. With its popular open-air stage, the park hosts a variety of international events that attract visitors from near and far. Every year in May, the Aalborg Carnival is celebrated here, where the park transforms into a festive and colorful meeting place for people of all ages. The park is also a meeting place for children, and the playground is a popular destination for the little ones. In connection with the Carnival in May, a separate children's carnival is held.

Something quite special about Kildeparken is 'The Singing Trees', where since 1987, great artists have planted trees after visiting the Aalborg Congress & Culture Center. Several of the trees can be activated, so the tones from the songs of many of the great artists flow out into the park, creating an atmospheric ambiance. With names like Cliff Richard, Elton John, Andrea Bocelli, Paul Simon, and Leonard Cohen, 'The Singing Trees' have an impressive story to tell.
