The Five Ridges
At The Five Ridges, you will find castle ruins and manor house environments in the scenic area between Dollerup Hills and Lake Hald. Here you have access to 800 years of fascinating history – all within walking distance.
A good place to start your visit is at Haldladen by Hald Manor. Here you can delve into the history of Denmark and hear the story of The Five Ridges and the amazing glacial landscape at Hald. Afterwards, you can visit Old Hald, the castle that was never completed, or walk to Valdemar's Redoubt, a siege facility from 1372 established by King Valdemar Atterdag to conquer the Hald castle. Then proceed towards Hald Castle, which was built in the 1520s by the last Catholic bishop of Viborg and started as a state-of-the-art fortress. In 1536, King Christian III took over the castle, which was then named Hald Castle.
After that, you can walk to Daas Manor: a half-timbered farm established by Major General Gregers Daa in the early 1700s, on the site where the main house once stood. The last of the five is Hald Manor, which is the current main building. The manor was erected around 1787 and was originally built as a gatehouse to Gregers Daa's manor.
With children in tow, you can explore the nearby forest playground, which brings the past to life with historical games and surroundings that reflect the area's rich history. The Five Ridges is definitely a popular excursion destination with nature and culture combined for both young and old.

The Hærvej Tapestry
The Hærvej Tapestry is decorated with motifs that follow the Hærvej route from Viborg to Dannevirke. The decorations capture the breathtaking nature with its many historical monuments, telling the story of our ancestors' lives and journeys through forests, meadows, and bogs.
You can experience the Hærvej Tapestry for free at Søndermarkskirken, Viborg, where it is on display, but only during the church's opening hours. As part of the exhibition, a book titled "People on the Hærvej" has been published, which is richly illustrated and authored by Inga Linde Jensen.
If you wish to learn more, Søndermarkskirken, Viborg Guides, and Viborg Museum offer guided tours with experienced guides who provide a fascinating insight into the Hærvej Tapestry, Søndermarkskirken, and the history of the Hærvej.

Dollerup Hills
Dollerup Hills is a magnificent natural area located 10 km south of Viborg, which any outdoor enthusiast will enjoy. Here lie the heather-clad hills near the village of Dollerup and Hald Lake, which is one of Denmark's deepest lakes.
Dollerup Hills are situated along the ice margin line that separates the flat West Jutland from the hilly East Jutland, which was formed about 17,000 years ago during the last ice age. Therefore, you will experience significant differences in elevation in the area. The highest point is 63 meters above sea level, and from here you get a breathtaking view of the southern and eastern parts of Hald Lake. Dollerup Hills is a lovely destination for excursions and ideal for hiking in the hilly terrain. When you are in the area, you can also visit Dollerup Ice Cream House.
Join the adventure and explore Dollerup Hills, a wonderful area for both hiking or cycling through the changing landscapes of nature.
